Key skills in Application of Number

In order to meet the standards set by awarding bodies, we will provide an assignment for learners to follow step by step in order to achieve the level 1 qualification and we will work with the learner guiding them to achieve level 2. Learner must apply number skills in a variety of ways to demonstrate their competence.

Key skills in Communication

Learners will be required to meet criteria set by awarding bodies on skills such as taking part in discussions, reading information and prepare and produce at least two documents of different styles. At level 2 they must also present information in a short talk.

Key skills in Information Technology

Some learners may prefer to achieve the criteria for IT. We can assess their competence in a variety of skills related to the topic in order to gain the key skill.

Core Skills

These are relevant to Scottish learners completing a level 3 apprenticeship only and involve 5 areas including problem solving, communication, ICT, working with others and numeracy. There are a variety of levels required by individual qualifications and range from 3 to 6. Holistic assessment is completed with the NVQ to minimise the need for extra work.

Technical certificates - not Scotland

Achievement of a technical certificate is required for apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships and provide the technical ability to the vocational area. For example the travel and tourism qualification comprises tests in UK and Worldwide geography, an insurance test and an assignment that covers topics such as calculating foreign exchange, security overseas, foreign office advice and passport information.

Technical certificates in other vocational areas are usually one test which is either completed electronically or on paper.
